Overview of Scholarship Portals
The Government of Tamil Nadu, through different welfare departments like the Department of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, and the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, provides a wide range of scholarships. The goal is to provide financial assistance to students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds to enable them to pursue their education. The scholarship portals streamline the application, verification, and disbursement process.
Key Scholarship Portals
There are two major portals for scholarships in Tamil Nadu:
1. Tamil Nadu State Scholarship Portal (TNSSP)
The TNSSP is a single-window portal that integrates various state-run scholarship schemes. It is managed by the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA). This portal provides an end-to-end solution for scholarships, including online registration, verification, and direct benefit transfer (DBT).
Schemes Covered: This portal handles scholarships for students from Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), Denotified Communities (DNC), and Adi Dravidar/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST). It covers both pre-matric and post-matric scholarships.
2. National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
The NSP is a central government portal where students can apply for scholarships provided by various central ministries and UGC/AICTE. This is particularly important for students in Tamil Nadu who are eligible for central government schemes.
Schemes Covered: It includes scholarships for minority students, the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme, and other Central Sector Schemes of Scholarship.
