Overview of Online Services

The Tamil Nadu Police offers a dedicated Citizen Portal for online services, which includes filing online complaints and reports for lost articles. While you can't file a First Information Report (FIR) directly online, you can submit an online complaint that is then converted into a Community Service Register (CSR) entry. This is a crucial first step for many non-cognizable offenses and for reporting lost items.

How to File a Lost Article Report

Filing a report for a lost document or article is a quick and simple process. It's essential for getting duplicates of important documents like Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, or driving licenses.

  1. Visit the Portal: Go to the official Tamil Nadu Police Citizen Portal. The link is provided below.
  2. Select the Service: Navigate to the "Lost Document Report" or a similar section.
  3. Fill Details: Enter personal information, a description of the lost item(s), the date and location of the loss, and your contact details.
  4. Submit Report: After filling out the form, submit the report. You will receive a reference number and a downloadable PDF copy of the lost article report (LDR). This document is legally valid for obtaining duplicates of your lost items.

How to File an Online Complaint

While you can't file a direct online FIR, the online complaint system is the best way to get your issue registered without visiting the police station.

  1. Visit the Portal: Go to the Tamil Nadu Police Citizen Portal.
  2. Register a Complaint: Find the "Register Online Complaints" section. You'll need to enter your personal details and an OTP sent to your mobile number.
  3. Describe the Incident: Fill in all the details of the incident, including the date, time, location, and a detailed description of the offense.
  4. Submit and Get CSR: After submitting the complaint, the system generates a Community Service Register (CSR) number. This is an official acknowledgment of your complaint. The police will review it and may convert it into an FIR if the offense is cognizable (a serious offense where police can arrest without a warrant). You can then track the status of your CSR on the portal.
