Overview of CMCHIS

The Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), also known as Amma Health Insurance, is a government-funded health insurance program for the low-income population of Tamil Nadu. The scheme provides cashless hospitalization for a wide range of medical and surgical procedures.

  • Cashless Treatment: Eligible beneficiaries do not have to pay for treatment at empanelled hospitals.
  • High Coverage Amount: The scheme provides coverage up to ₹5,00,000 per family per year on a floater basis.
  • Extensive Procedure Coverage: It covers over 1,000 procedures, including major surgeries for cancer, heart disease, kidney ailments, and neurological disorders.
  • Follow-up Care: CMCHIS also covers the cost of follow-up treatments and diagnostic tests.
  • Family Floater Plan: All eligible members of a family are covered under a single plan, including the head of the family, spouse, children, and dependent parents.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scheme, a family must meet the following criteria:

  • Residence: Must be a resident of Tamil Nadu.
  • Income Limit: The family's annual income must be less than ₹1,20,000.
  • Family Card: The applicant's name must be included in the family's ration card.
  • Special Categories: Sri Lankan refugees with valid documents and certain orphans or rescued girl children are also eligible.

How to Apply and Get Your Card

The application process for CMCHIS is straightforward and primarily offline.

  1. Obtain an Income Certificate: Visit your local Village Administrative Officer (VAO) or Revenue authorities to get an income certificate.
  2. Gather Documents: Collect the necessary documents, including your Ration Card, Aadhaar Card, Income Certificate, and a self-declaration from the head of the family.
  3. Visit an Enrollment Center: Take your documents to a designated CMCHIS enrollment center, typically located at the District Collector's Office or certain government hospitals.
  4. Biometric Verification: At the center, a kiosk operator will verify your documents and capture your biometrics (fingerprint, photo, and eye scan).
  5. Receive Your Card: Upon successful verification, a CMCHIS e-card will be issued to you. This card is essential for availing cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals.
