Overview of Odisha Food Security Scheme (SFSS)

The Odisha State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) is a key initiative of the Government of Odisha to ensure no poor or distressed person is deprived of food security. This scheme extends the benefits of subsidized food grains to those families who are not covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The SFSS aims to supplement the national scheme and provide a safety net for vulnerable citizens, ensuring a continuous supply of essential food items.

Eligibility and Benefits

The scheme is designed to cover households that are a part of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category but have been left out of the NFSA list. Key benefits and eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Eligibility: The scheme is for households not covered under the NFSA. This includes people with no assured means of subsistence, such as elderly persons, widows, and persons with disabilities.
  • Benefit: Each eligible beneficiary receives **5 kg of rice per month**.
  • Cost: The rice is provided at a highly subsidized rate of only **₹1 per kg**.
